I finally made it out to central Washington and it is beautiful! Palouse Falls is roughly around 4 hours from the heart of Seattle. It is definitely a weekend trip to get there and is totally worth the drive. The falls is located within the Palouse Falls State Park and is formally known as Aput Aput which means “falling water”, named by the Palouse Tribe. It is Washington’s official state waterfall and is magnificent. The waterfall can be seen right from the parking lot but there is a hiking trail to get you closer to the top of the falls. The hike itself is easy to moderate (there were children 5 and under walking this trail) but is not for the faint of heart. Being somewhat afraid of heights, I couldn’t get too close to the edge. But there are tons of photo opportunities on the way!
The view of the falls from the parking lot is unreal. You don’t need to walk very far for a gorgeous photo.
The start of the trail. There are many small paths that lead you to the opening that leads you down the hill.
Palouse River can be seen below.
Once you reach the bottom of the hill, you can get close to the river. There were a couple of people that sat on the grassy areas eating their lunch. This is a great spot for a picnic.
I love the camo color of these Lululemon leggings. They kept we warm and dry near the river.
Took a quick photo at the end of the trail. You can see the top of the waterfall here. My knees were buckling looking at how close those people were to the edge. I had to turn around to calm my nerves.
We didn’t stay too long at the top but took our time coming back through the ravine.
The water was roaring that day!
Almost forgot a jumping picture!
See you in the wild!
